The Hangar: meet the people behind the cameras

Good filmmaking is a team effort. The Hangar is our place to meet other filmmakers and pilots, swap stories from set and find people who share your interests. Beginners and seasoned crew are equally welcome.

Tell us a little about your role, your general location and the kind of work you enjoy. Share a reel or a project you have permission to show, or talk about a lesson from a recent shoot that could help someone else.

Looking for collaborators? Describe the project, the skills you need, the general location and timing, and whether the opportunity is paid or unpaid. Keep the details clear so people can decide whether it is a good fit.

Credit your collaborators, respect client confidentiality and keep promotion relevant to the conversation. For technical questions or feedback on a shot, choose the matching topic so others can find it.

Where are you based, and what…

Questions & Getting Started: every filmmaker starts somewhere

New to filmmaking, drone cinematography or this community? Ask here. You do not need a professional reel or technical vocabulary to take part. A simple, specific question is a great place to begin.

Tell us what you want to make, what equipment you have and how much experience you have with it. Explain what you have tried and where you are getting stuck. A photo, short clip or example can make your question easier to understand.

If you are replying, explain unfamiliar terms and suggest a manageable next step. Share the reasoning behind your advice so someone can apply it to their next shoot.

You can introduce yourself in the pinned Start Here post. For airspace, clearance or FAA questions, use FAA Clearances, Help & News so those conversations stay easy to find.

What would you like help understanding or trying for the first time?

Drones, Cameras & Gear: find the right setup for the job

This is the place to compare aircraft, cameras, lenses and the equipment that helps you get the shot. Share practical experience from real shoots, or ask for help choosing a setup that fits your work.

For recommendations, tell us what you shoot, your current kit, your budget and what you need to improve. Mention payload, portability, flight time or delivery requirements where they matter. A useful answer explains the trade-offs and why a particular setup fits the job.

If you are reviewing equipment, include how you used it, what worked and where it fell short. First-hand experience is welcome at every budget. Please mention any brand affiliation when recommending a product.

For wiring, component compatibility or flight tuning on a custom drone, head to FPV Builds & Tuning.

Cinematography & Technique: talk through the shot

Use this topic to explore how a shot works: composition, camera movement, lens choice, framing and the decisions that help tell the story. Ground-based and aerial perspectives are both welcome.

Bring a specific question, a reference you can link to, or a technique you are trying to improve. Tell us what you want the audience to feel, how the subject moves, and what is making the shot difficult. Include your camera, lens or field of view, aircraft if relevant, and any production constraints.

You do not need an expensive setup or a finished reel to join in. If you are answering, explain the reasoning behind your suggestion and offer an approach someone can try.

For feedback on your own finished clip or still, use Share Your Work. Keep this topic focused on the craft and the choices behind the image.

What camera move or cinematography technique are you working on?

FAA help desk: clearances, questions and current developments

Use this thread to ask about the clearance process, share a useful resource, or discuss a development that affects drone production. New pilots are welcome to ask where to start.

For help, describe your question, general area or airspace, timing, and the step you are stuck on. Share what you have already checked without posting client details, private documents, or sensitive flight plans.

When sharing news or answering a rules question, link the original FAA source and include its publication or update date. Separate your own experience from a confirmed requirement so readers can check the current information.

If you resolved a question, come back and explain what helped. Those follow-ups can become useful references for the next pilot.

FPV build bench: what are you building or troubleshooting?

From a first solder joint to a cinema rig, this is the place to share an FPV build and work through the details together.

Tell us what you want the drone to do, your target size and budget, and the parts you are considering or already using. Include the frame, motors, ESC and flight controller, battery, video system, receiver, and camera payload where relevant.

For troubleshooting, describe the symptom, what changed, firmware versions, and the checks you have already tried. Clear wiring photos or a short recording can help people give a useful answer.

For bench work, remove propellers before powering or testing motors. Keep any setup advice specific to the hardware in the thread.

What is on your bench—and what is the next problem you want to solve?

Shot breakdowns: share one shot and how you made it

A great shot is even more useful when we can learn how it was made. Share a short clip or still, then walk us through your choices.

Include the goal of the shot, your camera and aircraft, lens or field of view, frame rate, and how you planned the camera movement. What worked? What would you change?

If you want feedback, ask one specific question. If you are replying, explain what you notice and offer a practical suggestion. Beginners are welcome to ask how any part of the setup works.

Only share work you have permission to show, and credit the crew. You can also explore AIRWOLF’s projects at https://www.airwolfdrones.com/our-work for inspiration.
